ENSURING A SAFE RETURN

MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

                                                              Volume 1, Issue 1

A NEW JOURNEY TO A NEW NORMAL

Planning and responding to the challenges of an unpredictable public health and economic crisis may be daunting but there is a way forward.
ALCM can help you determine what your new normal will look like after COVID-19 and as you prepare to welcome your staff back to the office. As governments around the world provide guidelines about the safety procedures to follow when we are eventually back at the office. We have to implement them and follow them, to do this we need systems in place. We need IWMS (Integrated Workplace Management Systems).
A logical approach will be to use your existing Integrated Workplace Management Software (IWMS) or implement cloud-based IWMS or Space Booking Management Systems to control who has access to the office to ensure that usage of workspace is contained within required or regulated levels. IWMS has been in the past used to manage and ensure maximum utilisation of spaces by personnel and post COVID-19 the same will apply.
The new normal includes limiting, recording, and managing personnel in the workplace which is possible through IWMS solution. Let us help you find the perfect fit for your business needs.
Organisations are starting to consider opening with reduced building capacity to see how the flow of people within the space can be managed. Our solutions and tools will be able to support your organization in the following areas. Since COVID-19 is here for the near future, organisations are also looking to IWMS to assist them with Incident management and tracking of COVID-19 cases and potential risk factors, at the workplace.

ASSET MANAGEMENT OF THE NATIONAL PROPERTY PORTFOLIO

WHO IS ALCM?
ALCM is a technology consultancy focused on providing integrated solutions for the management of assets throughout their life cycle. We develop solutions that allow for effective management of assets based on informatics that provide accurate real views of actual operating environments

BACKGROUND
The National Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (NDPWI) is the custodian of Immovable Assets comprising of approximately 35 000 land parcels, which are either vacant or improved, and 110 000 buildings. The NDPWI is responsible for the Immovable Asset Register and for maintaining and reporting on the assets.

THE CHALLENGE
The project team did not encounter any challenges with the integration. However, in our implementation, we had to ensure that the asset data received from the client, such as the GPS co-ordinates, were accurate and in the correct format.

THE SOLUTION
The ArcGIS solution is used to spatially represent the asset portfolio in the form of points or polygons denoting the actual land parcel shape and the buildings that are situated on these land parcels.

Users can use different base maps to view assets in different locations.

The ArcGIS modules are used by the client in various ways:
Real Estate Portfolio Management: The NDPWI Portfolio Managers, Real Estate Directors, and Lease Administrators use this module to view and examine assets in the portfolio on a geospatially enabled map.

Asset Module: The NDPWI REIRS branch uses the platform to identify all assets owned by NDPWI as part of their asset verification exercises.

Building Operation: Facility Managers, Maintenance Managers, and Building Managers use the platform to view the locations of logged service requests.

CONCLUSION
The ArcGIS integration provides users with an enhanced presentation of asset data as well as improved dashboard view reports. Features, such as automated zoom-in functionality to each asset and the ability to download immediate reports, has enhanced user efficiency. read more

IWMS User Group Seminar

OUR ANNOUNCEMENT

News & Events

ALCM 1st IWMS User Group Seminar

We launched our 1st Annual IWMS User Group Seminar where we discussed pain points of our customers and partners, the event brought specialist and users of Real – Estate and facilities systems to share insights on how to improve outcomes with innovative technologies such as; software, mobile apps, smart lighting, remote management, solutions for agile workplaces, virtual reality and data analytics. The Seminar tackled topics that addressed the benefits of IoT in IWMS and how organisations can use IWMS to reshape GIS, while our client panel discussion focused on the challenges having an IWMS implementation in their organisations and it was mentioned that active participation of businesses in the definition/validation of system requirements was an issue, mainly due to business continuity especially in the Public Sector and the successes included the discussion around the cost cutting, an increased efficiency, asset optimization and the availability of high-level or strategic data management.

The is a gap in the South African Market around asset management tools and there was also a discovery that there is confusion around building management assets and facilities management. Our IWMS User Group Seminar had a variety of industry specialists as speakers from Peter Malebye the IoT Division Execute from Vodacom, the Managing Director of Esri South Africa Patrick McKivergan, Fuse Forward’s Solution Architect Cathy Pickering, and the CEO of ZENZELE Recruit Jazz Gcobisa Mbanjwa. In addition, we had Pommie Lutchman and NAO the Robot from Ocular Technologies who showcased the wonderful world of AI – Watson Analytics. The second panel discussion was on the best fit technology, the engagement was on the era of big data debates of the quality of data collected vs the quantity of data collected will soon become a talking point with devices constantly reporting and providing data the shortages of data scientists will impact on the quality of the output from IWMS solutions.

Business philosophy:
Transformation is crucial as a nation. We are all destined for greatness but the ability to see greatness in oneself is one’s biggest challenge. The success of transformation is determined by engendering greatness in one’s self.
Motto:
“Practice is the hardest part of learning, and training is the essence of transformation”. – Ann Voskamp, One Thousand Gifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are.
Inspiration:
“What transforms this world is knowledge. Do you see what I mean? Nothing else can change anything in this world. Knowledge alone is capable of transforming the world, while at the same time leaving it exactly as it is. When you look at the world with knowledge, you realise that things are
unchangeable and at the same time are constantly
being transformed.” – Yukio Mishima, The Temple of the Golden Pavilion… read more

How do you see your role in the asset life-cycle management industry?

The global landscape of managing movable and immovable assets is changing fast. We’ve now gone way beyond our initial aim of cost-saving. Today, it’s about sustained and measurable productivity gains in environments. In South Africa there is an increased focus on energy management and green buildings, the outsourcing of facility management, performance measures, optimisation of space and integrated service provider models – all forming part of strategic asset management. Our focus at Asset Life-Cycle Management (ALCM) is to provide strategic asset management, which is enabled by the correct enterprise asset or infrastructure management software. ALCM helps organisations understand the true impact of its assets to illuminate opportunities to improve productivity, cost saving and revenue generation. read more
